A feminist perspective on public participation within design for transitions

The theoretical foundations underpinning the multiple approaches within design (for) transitions shape how they support sustainable transitions. Feminist theory could address existing injustices by providing a perspective on how public participation is conducted and scaled within these approaches. This paper aims to answer the question: How can a feminist perspective support scaling public participation for sustainable transitions? The empirical case of scaling climate assemblies in Scandinavian cities will be analysed through a feminist lens. This example will highlight how changing the theoretical foundation of approaches within design (for) transitions affects how they support sustainable transitions.
